2008 Pay Equity Process

Back to Home Print This Page Email This Page

The definition of a pay inequity is when a classification’s pay lags significantly behind that of classifications performing the same or similar work.

The enclosed information and forms will help you put forward your best case to the state that a pay inequity exists in your classification.  If you and your co-workers believe a pay inequity exists, you must complete the justification worksheet and gather the signatures of 10% of all workers in your classification prior to June 1, 2008.  This Pay Equity Process web page includes:

  • Classification Contact Information Forms
  • Pay Equity Justification Worksheets
  • A Pay Equity Petition
  • Salary Study Instructions and Worksheet

Instructions to Complete the Packet

Step 1 – Contact Information Form
  • Each person who wants to work on the pay equity team should fill out a contact information form.  This is the group that will help compile the initial information and help organize your co-workers.

Step 2 – Pay Equity Justification Worksheet
  • This worksheet will identify the reason(s) why the state should fix the inequity.

Step 3 – Pay Equity Petition

  • You and your co-workers need to get 10% of others in the classification to sign the petition.

Step 4 – Salary Study Instructions and Worksheet
  • This is an optional step, however it is highly recommended you complete the worksheet.  Often you and your co-workers are  the best judge(s) of how other employers classify your work. Your classification may prefer to do its own salary study.  If so, Local 1000’s Research Department can still provide assistance should the need arise.

Steps 1, 2 and 3 must be completed, Step 4 is optional, however it will assist us with moving your request to the bargaining table.
