For a year and a half, thousands of state employees have lost their homes, faced foreclosure, filed for bankruptcy or struggled to make basic payments. The safety net services that we provide and that millions of Californians rely upon are being cut to shreds. The big lenders and banks received bailouts and special deals. It's time for working families to get a bailout too. Let's make banks pay their fair share to rebuild the California Dream.
Wall Street and large banks took unnecessary risks, gamed the system and then crashed the economy. In the crisis, they used trillions in taxpayer funded bailouts - not to help working families and small businesses get back on their feet - but to pay themselves lavish bonuses and make money off communities and states reeling from the crash.
Working families have been blamed for taking on too much debt and making bad decisions for far too long--it's time Wall Street and banks pay for their own mistakes and make sure taxpayer dollars go to fund real recovery. Big banks created the housing crash, and they need to stop foreclosures or pay for damage they're doing to our neighborhoods.

Local 1000 has joined with other SEIU locals, other unions, consumer groups, churches and grassroots organizations to take on Wall Street and the big banks. We have gone to Sacramento, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and New York City to voice outrage at Wall Street and big banks for crashing the economy. We have exposed how high-paid corporate lobbyists are pushing against reform that would help keep a similar crisis from occurring in the future.
