Bargaining Update: Aug. 12

Our bargaining team met briefly with the state on Thurs., Aug. 12. The state agreed to our proposals on use of state-owned housing, a committee on upward mobility for Unit 15, uniformity of retirement language for all nine bargaining units, and updating the "supersession" part of our agreement.

Although state negotiators agreed to four of our proposals, they did not change positions on major economic issues.

Earlier last week the state withdrew takeaways equaling one-third of nearly $1 billion in concessions they originally proposed.

At a town hall meeting on Aug. 12, President Yvonne Walker called on us to increase our activism in support of our bargaining team.

"Our actions are the reason the state is making movement on a new contract," Walker said. "We are why the state is beginning to negotiate seriously."
