Pharmacy technicians win on meal breaks
After two years of pressure from Local 1000, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) has agreed to restore pharmacy technicians to the eight-hour shift we enjoyed prior to 2008.
In 2008, CDCR unfairly changed the schedule of pharmacy technicians work schedules from a straight eight-hour day that we enjoyed to a work day that included a mandatory unpaid lunch period. CDCR did this without the required notice to workers or Local 1000. Members of Bargaining Unit 20 filed an unfair labor practice and Local 1000 pressed our case.
Under the new settlement, pharmacy technicians working in a CDCR correctional institution will be scheduled to work straight eight-hour shifts and will not be required to take an unpaid meal period during their shift.
