Bargaining Units

Employees represented by SEIU Local 1000 belong to nine bargaining units. Each unit represents a distinct category of jobs.

UNIT 1 - Informational, Financial and Public Resource Professionals - Includes accounting officers, auditors and analysts for all departments; employment program representatives at the Employment Development Department; disability evaluators at the Disability Determination Services Division and information technology analysts.

UNIT 3 - Professional Educators and Librarians - Includes teachers and librarians at the departments of Corrections and Rehabilitation (Division of Juvenile Justice), Mental Health and Developmental Services as well as teachers in the State Special Schools for the deaf and the blind.

UNIT 4 - Office and Allied Workers - Includes program assistants, program/tax technicians, key data operators, word processing technicians and stock clerks.  This unit also represents toll collectors at eight bridges up and down the state.

UNIT 11 - Engineering and Scientific Technicians - Includes agricultural inspectors, air resources technicians, and those who perform drafting and technical work in such departments as Caltrans and Water Resources.

UNIT 14 - Printers - Includes employees at the Office of State Publishing where the state budget, bills and laws, and other state documents are printed; printers and graphic artists in individual departments.

UNIT 15 - Allied Service Workers - Includes civil service custodians who clean various state buildings, laundry workers, supervising cooks, and food services workers in the prisons and other state institutions.

UNIT 17 - Registered Nurses - Includes registered nurses in the state hospitals and prisons, departments of Health  Care Services and Public Health, nurse evaluators who inspect facilities, and nurse consultants who oversee special programs.

UNIT 20 - Medical and Social Services Specialists - Includes licensed vocational nurses, certified nurse assistants, teaching assistants, registered dental assistants, pharmacy and laboratory technicians, physical therapists and counselors. They work in prisons, veterans’ homes, developmental centers and special schools.

UNIT 21 - Educational Consultants and Librarians - Includes librarians at the State Library and educational consultants at the Department of Education who work with school districts and in educational programs.
