Article 8.3 Bereavement leave
Your union contract contains hundreds of provisions designed to protect your rights. Article 8.3 defines your right to paid time off to grieve a loved one. Your Local 1000 contract guarantees:

  • Up to three days of paid time off (per occurrence) due to the death of a parent, stepparent, spouse, domestic partner, grandparent, grandchild, child, sister, brother, stepchild or any person residing in the immediate household.
  • Up to three days total of paid time off (in a fiscal year) due to the death of an aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law or brother-in-law.
  • An additional two days of paid time off will be granted if travel of more than 400 miles is required (for both bullets above). This time will be deducted from accrued leave.

Annual vacation, CTO or other earned leave may be used if additional time off is required.
