Local 1000 is building a strong campaign for IT professionals
Dear IT Colleague:
I
can't begin to tell you how optimistic I feel about IT professionals
and the capacity to take our abilities to the next level in 2008.
Look
how far we've come. In 2005, we stopped Gov. Schwarzenegger's
disastrous propositions. In 2006, we were able to negotiate our first
SEIU Local 1000 contract. And in 2007, we've been able to put together
the first ever IT professionals campaign.
2007
has been a year of growth because we are working together to accomplish
our goals. At the beginning of the year, many were just attending
meetings. But you've transformed into activists and now leaders at
worksite meetings, teaching others about the ins and outs of our
profession.
The state's
reclassification project is a huge undertaking and we need input from
each and every IT professional. The state's proposal includes a
consolidation of the current IT classes and a complete overhaul of the
exam and promotion system. Local 1000 doesn't want to miss an issue or
concern that may impact your career. That's why we need your
participation in one of our worksite meetings.
Speaking
of career, in 2008, we need to step up our fight to restore the
integrity of the IT profession within state service and we must reduce
outsourcing. Because of the work we have ahead, I need a commitment
from you to invest in our careers and become a member of Local 1000.
This way, no matter what issue we're bargaining over, the state gets a
clear message that IT Professionals are united and we will be heard.
