What I do: We do all the housekeeping and  clean-ups behind the residents at the DVA Barstow Vet's Home. We take care of their daily living needs.  Talking to our veterans is something special.  You hear the most amazing stories.  Some of these veterans are over 90 years old.   A good chunk of our country's history lives here.  One of the women vets here designed the wiring for minuteman missiles.   For all of the veterans, we try to create an atmosphere of home here, so that they really do have a home.   

We're here to serve veterans.  That's our mission.

What I do: I am a fair trade adjustment specialist.  We help to find training and jobs for workers dislocated by their employers moving outside the country.  we figure out what training might be available to them.  We try to make sure that people get training in areas that have jobs.  There’s no other assistance is just not out there if we don't help them.  One time, I helped a guy obtain training to become a barber, and now he has his own shop.  That's a great success for him.  It’s amazing when we can help someone. 

When a large amount of people lose their jobs, it is IMPERATIVE that we get them back to work.

What I do: I process licenses for HMO health plans to make sure that the California residents who could become enrollees are protected and safe.  I make sure that HMO plans follow California laws, as they are set out in the Knox-Keene Act.  As healthcare providers want to roll out new HMO plans, or want to extend these plans into new areas across California, I help review these HMO plans to make sure that they provide adequate access and services, and are priced appropriately according to region.

Healthcare is essential to all human beings, especially in this day and age.  I have a role in protecting the healthcare of Californians.

What I do: I am responsible for conducting background checks on people who are seeking employment within public schools, private schools (upon request), law enforcement, non-sworn criminal justice personnel, public utilities, health facilities, youth organizations, and financial institutions.

I help keep sex offenders, among others, out of schools and daycares.

What I Do:  My job is to track the reports local waste agencies provide that account for how much hazardous toxic waste is diverted from landfills.  Cites collect these human and environmental pollutants and send them to the proper recycling facilities, and I help track these.  These materials are typically from household goods, like oils, paints, batteries, old electronics, detergents, and other chemicals.
