We’re fighting the governor’s executive order
on many fronts

Responding to member outrage at the governor’s executive order slashing state workers’ pay and laying off more than 10,000 employees, Local 1000 is contesting the action on numerous fronts in support of those impacted.

Local 1000 is fighting back and here’s how we’re fighting for you:

  • Taking legal action to block the governor’s executive order: we've filed two lawsuits to overturn the layoff of 10,000 state employees and an unfair labor practice suit to reverse the governors pay cut order.

  • Rolling out a massive media campaign designed to solicit public support for the unfair treatment of our members and establishing the real value of state workers.

  • Applying our political strength to push the governor and Legislature to pass a fair and responsible budget.

  • Building a strong coalition of allies in our fight, including the Lt. Governor, the state Controller, the state Treasurer, 27 members of the California Congressional delegation, SEIU locals statewide, scores of California legislators, and more than 30,000 Californians who have signed petitions opposing the governors executive order.

  • Delivering a pink slip to the governor at a noontime press conference last Friday and at his Brentwood mansion on Sunday for his failed leadership.

  • Bargaining with DPA over the impact and effects of the governor’s actions, including the increased workloads caused by the governor's massive layoffs.
