Local 1000, CSEA move into new
era
Local 1000 General Council delegates last weekend kept the union firmly on course to meet the challenges facing members and moving CSEA forward into a new era.
"It's huge," said Rhonda Wagner, DMV, Sacramento. "With our new budget and new leadership at CSEA, we can just get so much more done for the members."

Bargaining Unit 1 delegates pledge to protect fair
share
Unit 1 General Council delegates pledged an all-out campaign
to defend Fair Share fees.
“We need to ensure that Local 1000 continues to
have the resources to win contract campaigns, protect our retirement and
represent our members,” said James Thomas, EDD, San Jose.
“This is about our jobs, our benefits and our lives,” said
Ray Villapando, CDCR, Calpatria State Prison, “It’s about what’s fair and what’s
right. We can’t let a few who won’t pay their share destroy everything we’ve
fought for.”

Rank and file leaders celebrate victories,
plan future
General Council got underway with a bang for Local 1000
delegates as hundreds of rank and file leaders met Friday to celebrate the
union’s progress in the last two years, and prepare for challenges
ahead.
“It was awesome to see the energy, and to see how many
members are working hard all over the state to make the union stronger every
day,” said first-time delegate Christine Villareal, RN, Patton State
Hospital.
At the first-ever Local 1000 Day at General Council,
delegates rose to their feet chanting and cheering repeatedly as SEIU
International President Andy Stern congratulated Local 1000 on its growing
strength.
