Local 1000's political program is part of a multi-faceted approach to enhancing the power of our members. It is through our collective power that we will be able to improve the quality of life of our membership and continue to provide quality services to Californians.
In order to get the best results for our members it is crucial that we communicate with all elected officials, regardless of party. As one of the first unions in the country to develop a program that recruits Republican members to meet with their Republican legislators we are paving the way for issue-driven politics rather than partisan politics. Our program builds on the diversity of California to recruit people of all parties to hold legislators accountable. We firmly believe that the services we provide to all Californians are services that all legislators should fight for, and that investing in a quality workforce that is trained and justly compensated is good for all Californians. We have met with Republican-elected officials throughout California but we need more people to become involved to ensure our issue-driven political message is heard and acted on by legislators.
