Unit 15 Statewide Food Service Workers Task Force

Post

On June 8, 2018, the Unit 15 Food Service Workers team launched their Task Force meetings with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).

The team was led by Pete Garza, Correctional Supervising Cook (CSC) from Valley State Prison, and also includes Calixtro Duarte, CSC from Wasco State Prison, Deborah Donnelly, CSC from California Medical Facility, Vacaville, and Maria Patterson, the Chair of Unit 15. Lisa Bocast, a Food Service Technician II from DVA in Redding, is also part of this great team.

The team and the state worked to establish a positive and collaborative environment and to layout the framework for future productive meetings.   The team outlined the issues that are impacting our members and started working with the state to find solutions. The issues include:

  • Overtime distribution procedures
  • The proper implementation of the $100 reimbursement for shoes, which applies to all Unit 15 members except CSCs in CDCR. The process requires a receipt and should be paid between July 1 and September 1 of each fiscal year.
  • The implementation of Annual Post and Bid in CDCR and CCHCS
  • Health and safety issues
  • Vacancies, hiring and retention issues
