SEIU Local 1000 Vice-President Cora Okumura and delegation of state workers from various Los Angeles departments will be delivering signatures from hundreds of workers thanking Mr. Chiang for publicly defying the Governors executive order.

Under Gov. Schwarzenegger’s recent executive order about 150,000 state workers are seeing their salaries cut to $6.55 an hour. The governor has also terminated more than 10,000 state workers.

SEIU Local 1000 workers have filed three court actions challenging the governor’s executive order. They include two suits in California Superior Court to rescind the layoffs and an unfair labor practice complaint with the state Public Employee Relations Board seeking to overturn the pay reduction order. We have also asked the court to let us join John Chiang in defending against a lawsuit filed Gov. Schwarzenegger.
