In accordance with Side Letter 9.4 of the Local 1000 master contract, the Local 1000 Program Technician committee has begun the process for the joint Local 1000/DPA reclassification study.
The committee will meet with the Department of Personnel Administration (DPA) to go over the questions for a job duty survey that will be sent to all program technicians statewide asking for input and comments on their classification. The results will be examined jointly in order to develop a revised and updated Program Technician classification series for all PT level Is, IIs, and IIIs.
"We are committed to do all we can to produce the best possible new classification series," said Morena Wong, Program Technician committee member. "But we need program technicians throughout the state to respond to the survey.
The Program Technician committee is made up of representatives from EDD, SCIF, DOJ, and all other affected departments statewide where program technicians work. The committee includes Francisca Pass (who represents all other affected departments), BU 4 Vice Chair, DDS, Morena Wong, EDD, Karen Jefferies, DOJ, and Patrick Swift, SCIF.
"We have to speak as one strong and united voice," said Larry Perkins, Bargaining Unit 4 Chair. "Only then will DPA take seriously the need to revise the Program Technician classification series."
Become A Program Technician Network Leader
The
Program Technician Committee is moving forward with studying the
Program Technician classification series, as outlined in the MOU, Side
Letter 9.4. But we are also preparing for the 2008 contract campaign
and pension initiative fight we know are on the horizon. Member
participation at every worksite with Program Technicians will be the
key to winning, but we have to build a strong Program Technician
communication network in each building. Signing up to be a "Network
Leader" - a member of the Program Technician Campaign Action Team or
PT-CAT - means that you will be responsible for carrying information to
and from a defined number of your co-workers – probably no more than
20. Although the Program Technician Committee will use every means
possible to talk to Program Technicians, including, e-mail blasts; robo
calls; newsletters; leaflets; worksite meetings and our link on the
Local 1000 website – we are still not reaching a majority of our
workers. Our goal is to build a rapid response team at each worksite
with Program Technicians. By getting involved and helping to
communicate with Program Technicians, you can help us win!
