Hundreds of Statewide Leaders Convene to Launch Membership Campaign

Our contract expires in less than a year—337 days as of this writing—and SEIU Local 1000 just kicked off a comprehensive campaign to boost membership and increase engagement to empower us to win a great contract in 2023.

In Sacramento and in our four regional offices across the state, Local 1000 Job Stewards convened on July 28 to hear the importance and impact of stronger membership numbers on our upcoming negotiations.

Women’s Empowerment Committee Announces Two Big Events

The SEIU Local 1000 Women’s Empowerment Committee (WEC) has put two statewide events on its activity calendar, and you’re invited to join both.

On September 9, the popular LUNAFEST film festival returns. In January 2023, an all-new event — a day-long women’s conference — will debut. A third event, a discussion about the unseen effects of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, is soon to be scheduled.

Fast Track Steward Graduate Fights and Wins at Concord DMV

When management at the Concord Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office provided improper notice on upcoming schedule changes, Job Steward Alicia Garner took a stand against management, enforced our contract, and improved working conditions for her fellow workers.

Alicia has been a state employee for nearly 10 years, almost half of that time as a DMV employee. She was appointed to her stewardship just a year ago and completed the Fast Track training program.

Did you know when your fellow state workers and union leaders talk about “standing together” and taking action to protect our rights or to win a new contract, that behavior is protected by provisions in our contract and by California State Law.
