Local 1000 Board of Directors Meeting Recap from September 23-25, 2022

Our SEIU Local 1000 Board of Directors (BOD) held a virtual meeting September 23-25, 2022 to continue their work in governing our union. The Board is comprised of 65 member-elected representatives — 51 District Labor Council (DLC) Presidents, 10 Bargaining Unit Chairs, and 4 Statewide Officers.

Celebrating the rich history of LGBTQ+ progress

LGBTQ+ History Month is a month-long celebration of the history of the diverse and beautiful lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community and the importance of civil rights movements in progressing gay rights. Our Local 1000 Purpose Statement encourages us to pursue social justice for all Californians, and we join proudly in this month-long celebration.

CCC/Susanville Closure Update – Informational Meetings Underway

SEIU Local 1000’s Contract Department is working with our represented employees at Susanville’s California Correctional Center (CCC) to help them understand the process and procedure of the June 30, 2023 closure of that facility.

On Friday, October 7, and again on Wednesday, October 12, informational Zoom meetings offer impacted prison workers the latest information received from CDCR/CCHCS. We’ll also be listening to their concerns, which will help the negotiating team when we begin meeting with the Department on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Federal Loan Forgiveness Program Offering Relief for Student Loans
The deadline for an important one-time waiver is October 31.

Many of our fellow state workers have pursued a career in public service after an expensive college education, while many more are going to school while working full time. There’s possible relief available for those of you with student loans, offered by the Federal Government: a “forgiveness” of the balance of your loans after you’ve made 120 payments.
