Bargaining Unit 15 Upward Mobility and Career Development JLMC Meeting

Announcement

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, our Union’s Bargaining Unit 15 Statewide Upward Mobility and Career Development Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) met with CalHR, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Department of General Services (DGS), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Department of State Hospitals (DSH), Employment Development Department (EDD), and California Department of Veteran Affairs (CalVet) to continue to discuss the current status of upward mobility and career development programs and to plan for future steps. We discussed the following topics:

  • How every department has an upward mobility program and how Bargaining Unit 15 classifications can access their department’s Upward Mobility Program

  • Elements each department is including in their Upward Mobility Program, such as career counseling, computer training, business application training, resume building assistance, cover letter assistance, Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) assistance, and job shadow coordination resources

  • How each department offers Bargaining Unit 15 classifications access to computers to be utilized on state time

  • Not all departments are utilizing the 20/20 program within their Upward Mobility Programs partly because Bargaining Unit 15 employees are not requesting to be a part of the Upward Mobility Program and the resources are being underutilized

It is important for all of Bargaining Unit 15 represented employees to know that all departments have Upward Mobility Programs, and everyone is encouraged to reach out to their supervisor to learn more. Every department claims to offer access to computers to be used on state time. If you are being denied access to use a computer on state time at your worksite, please contact the Member Resource Center (MRC) 866.471.SEIU (7348) or by emailing unit15@seiu1000.org

“The State ensures that Upward Mobility Programs are up and running at all the departments represented. We encourage our Unit 15 members to use the resources available. If you are being denied, then please reach out to Unit 15 leadership.”  ~ Jessie Aranda, Upward Mobility JLMC Chair
