Worksite Wins Build Worker Power
When Devin Hutchings was offered a job at the Department of Toxic Substances, California (DTSC) in Berkeley, CA, 6 months ago, she was prepared to change her life to join state service. After receiving a written offer,agreeing to the salary and classification, she made a major move from Portland, Oregon to California. She moved to the Bay Area after weighing the high cost of living and expense of moving with the salary she had been promised.
4.21.23 Bargaining Wrap up: SEIU Local 1000 Proposes 30% General Salary Increase to State
Our bargaining team proposed a 30% general salary increase (GSI) and 100% paid health care coverage to the State for all our represented employees. This demand is not one to be taken lightly. In order to win this desperately needed raise, we are all committing to a fight that will define our future. This is only the beginning of our campaign, but with our team already at the table, we are able to prepare for the fight ahead.
Mental Health: Autism Awareness Month
Every April, we observe Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month by highlighting the unique needs and opportunities for people with autism in our Union and our communities. For Local 1000’s Accessibility Committee—one of 10 Human Rights Committees in our Union—this awareness continues all year as they work to ensure that accessibility for disabled workers is a priority for our Union and for the State.
