Local 1000 Veterans Committee Shows Appreciation to Those Who Serve

Article Published on may 19, 2023

May is Military Appreciation Month, an opportunity to express gratitude to the current and past members of our Armed Services—and their families—who defend the interests and security of our nation every hour and every day of the year.

Our Local 1000 Veterans Committee is committed to being a strong advocate for our represented employees who came to state service after their military service. In essence, they’re in a second career where they work to serve all Californians.

“We thank them all for serving twice—military service and public service,” said Richard Rocha, who works at EDD in Southern California and serves as the Chair of the Veterans Committee.

In recognition of that commitment to serve, the committee has been delivering $75 certificates redeemable at Honey Baked Ham. “We wish to offer our Vets a meaningful appreciation for all they do,” said Rocha.

Already, more than 60 certificates have been handed out by Rocha and his fellow Veterans Committee members Ebie Lynch and Jose Medina.

Right now, the committee is accepting applications for two $500 scholarships to benefit the high school graduates of families of veterans working in state service. You can get more information about the scholarship by emailing the committee chair at specialist Richard.rocha@edd.ca.gov
