Know Your Rights: You have the right to participate in Union actions

Did you know when your fellow state workers and union leaders talk about “standing together” and taking action to protect our rights or to win a new contract, that behavior is protected by provisions in our contract and by California State Law?

Negotiations for a new contract begin soon — in 2023. You have a right to take action in support of SEIU Local 1000! Here’s an outline of what you can do. If you are ever prevented from exercising your right to participate in any way, contact your Local 1000 job steward or the Member Resource Center (MRC) at 866.471.SEIU (7348).

Winner Announced in T-Shirt Design Contest

Leona Mitchell, a LVN working at Avenal State Prison, was named the winner in SEIU Local 1000’s t-shirt design contest, and you’ll be seeing her work next year as part of our campaign to win a new contract.

When we Purple Up, we build a stronger, more cohesive Union to ensure we get the wages, benefits, and working conditions we deserve. This new t-shirt design will be part of the package that creates a unified look that we use to proclaim that we’re Stronger Together.

How Contract Negotiations Work – Who Bargains our Contract?

As we look toward 2023, we’re looking forward to engaging our membership to win a great new contract. As we work towards that goal, it’s important for all of us to understand the process and timeline we use to negotiate and ratify our agreement with the State.

State Bar Tentative Agreement is Ratified!

State Bar members have voted overwhelmingly to ratify the tentative contract agreement. 96.8 % of the participating members in the Attorney Unit and 94.3% of the members in the General Unit cast “yes” votes in favor of ratification.

Thank you for voting, and thanks to the Bargaining Committee for their hard work in negotiating our new contract!

The Board of Trustees will vote to approve the Tentative Agreement at their next meeting on December 22, 2022. After approval, the new Tentative Agreement is expected to go into effect January 1, 2023.
