On February 27, our GeoPay Task Force presented the acting director of CalHR and a team of state representatives with an in-depth report recommending solutions to the economic challenges many state workers face caused by the high cost of living in the communities they live and work in throughout the state of California.

Unit 14 Bargaining Team Signs Tentative Agreement for Graphic Designer Classification Study
Local 1000’s Unit 14 bargaining team capped a good day at the negotiation table on Friday, August 9, with a tentative agreement (TA) to conduct a Classification Study for its Graphic Designers. This victory represents an important step towards bringing the class specifications into the 21st century and to winning a new contract.

Unit 14 Bargaining Team Secures Important Differential; Rolls Over Skill Pay for Digital Print Operator IIs
On Wednesday, August 21, the Unit 14 bargaining team signed a “roll-over” tentative agreement (TA) that ensures Digital Print Operator IIs will continue to receive their Skill Pay Differential of 3 percent for operating the HP 10000 Digital Press at the Office of State Publishing.
Earlier in the bargaining process state negotiators had indicated that they were interested in taking away the differential on this provision. However, on Wednesday morning they agreed to drop any new proposals and signed the “roll-over” language.

Unit 14 Bargaining Team Reaches 27 Tentative Agreements with State Negotiators; Defends Upward Mobility Provisions
Local 1000 Unit 14, which represents state printers, went back to the bargaining table on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 and signed 27 roll-over, tentative agreements with state negotiators. The agreements cover items that (1) ensure current upward mobility and training related contract articles and (2) provide avenues for Unit 14 workers to explore training and career advancement opportunities.

Our Unit 14 bargaining team met with the State’s bargaining team on Tuesday July 9th, 2019 to talk about the changing nature of their industry and to call for fair compensation by submitting a special salary adjustment for all 34 of the classifications they represent.

Unit 15 Gains Rights that Improve Personal Safety and Protect Personal Time.
Friday’s Unit 15 bargaining session saw advances in our contract language that benefit the welfare of our members on the job and in their personal lives via safety, and the time off we all use to keep a work/life balance.
“We’re delivering tentative agreements that respond to issues our Unit 15 members raised at town halls and in bargaining surveys,” said Lisa Bocast, a member of the Unit 15 bargaining team.

Unit 15 Scores Big Win on Overtime Distribution
Our Unit 15 bargaining team culminated another successful negotiating session with the state by reaching agreement on overtime distribution language for members working at California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).
“We fought hard and won language that makes the distribution of overtime more fair and transparent,” said Garth Underwood, a member of the Unit 15 team. “At the same time, we’re ensuring the well-being of workers at CDCR by strengthening language on overtime shifts.”
