Become a Local 1000 Job Steward
Hello SEIU Local 1000 Represented State Workers -
Our Job Stewards—nearly 1,000 strong and growing—are on the front lines of representing our members, enforcing our hard-earned contract rights, and building member strength. We hope you’ll consider stepping up and becoming a Job Steward.
We are now accepting applications for FastTrack, the SEIU Local 1000 Job Steward Training Program which will begin October 1, 2022, and we invite you to apply to become a Job Steward.
2022 State Bar Bargaining Survey
Thank you all for your membership in our Union and for participating in the process we’ll use to secure our new and improved Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Hundreds of Statewide Leaders Convene to Launch Membership Campaign
Our contract expires in less than a year—337 days as of this writing—and SEIU Local 1000 just kicked off a comprehensive campaign to boost membership and increase engagement to empower us to win a great contract in 2023.
In Sacramento and in our four regional offices across the state, Local 1000 Job Stewards convened on July 28 to hear the importance and impact of stronger membership numbers on our upcoming negotiations.
Women’s Empowerment Committee Announces Two Big Events
The SEIU Local 1000 Women’s Empowerment Committee (WEC) has put two statewide events on its activity calendar, and you’re invited to join both.
On September 9, the popular LUNAFEST film festival returns. In January 2023, an all-new event — a day-long women’s conference — will debut. A third event, a discussion about the unseen effects of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, is soon to be scheduled.
Fast Track Steward Graduate Fights and Wins at Concord DMV
When management at the Concord Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office provided improper notice on upcoming schedule changes, Job Steward Alicia Garner took a stand against management, enforced our contract, and improved working conditions for her fellow workers.
Alicia has been a state employee for nearly 10 years, almost half of that time as a DMV employee. She was appointed to her stewardship just a year ago and completed the Fast Track training program.
Know Your Rights: You have the right to participate in union actions
Did you know when your fellow state workers and union leaders talk about “standing together” and taking action to protect our rights or to win a new contract, that behavior is protected by provisions in our contract and by California State Law.
That means you have a right to take action in support of SEIU Local 1000! If you are ever prevented from exercising your right to participate in any way, contact your Local 1000 job steward or the Member Resource Center at 466-471-7348.
Here’s an outline of what you can do:
