SEIU Local 1000 Reaches Historic Tentative Contract Agreement with State

SACRAMENTO, CA (August 20, 2023) — After over four months of negotiations, the SEIU Local 1000 bargaining team has reached an overall tentative agreement (TA) with the State of California. If ratified, the contract would significantly raise the wage floor for tens of thousands of state workers and represents the biggest three-year contract in Local 1000 history.

SACRAMENTO, CA (April 20, 2023) – Members of SEIU Local 1000, the state’s largest public employee union representing more than 96,000 state workers, kicked off contract bargaining by calling for a 30% wage increase over three years (12% on 7/1/2023; 9% on 7/1/2024; and 9% on 7/1/2025) along with workplace and benefit protections.

SACRAMENTO, CA (August 23, 2021) – This Friday, August 27, on the west lawn of the State Capitol, the represented employees of SEIU Local 1000 will stand strong against the Governor’s efforts to ignore and violate their hard-earned contract rights.

At issue is California Governor Gavin Newsom’s late-July unilateral mandate for vaccinations or biweekly COVID testing for all state employees—a change in working conditions that can’t happen without a meet-and-confer with union representatives to negotiate over the impacts of such a change.

SEIU Local 1000 Board of Directors Approve Independent Hearing Officer’s Recommendations to Remove Richard Louis Brown from Union Presidency

SACRAMENTO (January 7, 2023) – The Board of Directors of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000 voted today to ratify an independent hearing officer’s recommendation to remove Richard Louis Brown as the union’s president for the remainder of his term, which ends in 2024.  They also formally reprimanded him for his misconduct, removed him from the office of Union steward, and banned him from holding the office of Union steward until December 31, 2024. The discipline removes Brown from his position on the Board of Directors.
