Agenda Committee
The Agenda Committee is responsible for review of all items submitted for addition to the Local 1000 Board of Directors agenda. The committee convenes immediately prior to the Local 1000 Board of Directors meeting to approve the final meeting agenda.
API Community Briefing
On March 31, 2020, SEIU 1000’s Asian Pacific Islander Committee leaders attended a community briefing via Zoom. The event was sponsored by the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA) to hear how elected officials and community leaders are addressing the rise of hate crimes and anti-Asian sentiment due to the coronavirus outbreak and cover ground on many aspects of how COVID-19 is affecting Asian American communities at large.
Elected officials, including Senator Kamala Harris, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Mark Takano, Congressman Ted Lieu, and other community & business leaders, joined the briefing.

Ballet dancer: Misty Danielle Copeland
Misty Copeland was born on September 10, 1982. She is an American Ballet dancer for the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United States. On June 30, 2015, Copeland became the first African-American woman to be promoted to principal dancer in ABT’s 75 year history.

Activist: Rosa Parks
The work of Rosa Parks is a reminder that people’s individual actions can lead to extraordinary change. And that as Union activists, we too can forge change as did Ms. Parks.
Montgomery Bus Boycott:
On December 1, 1955, we all know that Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama, public bus, when asked to do so for a white man. This single action of civil disobedience kicked off the Montgomery Bus Boycott that lasted for over a year.

2020 Leora Hill Scholarship
Leora Hill was born on August 7, 1951, in Lorain, Ohio, to Raymond Edward Fowler Sr. and Priscilla Jane Douthit. She was the fourth of six children, and mirrored her values of love, family and social responsibility in her own two children, Toni and Troy Fowler. Leora began her working life at the Ford Motor plant and discovered the importance of dignity at work and advocating for workers’ rights soon on. She moved to California in 1981 with her daughter, and in 1982, she met the man who would become her best friend and life partner, Wayne Hill. They married on March 29, 1985.
