Apprentice Program to Offer New Opportunities for Unit 15 Custodians
SEIU Local 1000’s groundbreaking Apprentice Program will soon announce another upward mobility opportunity for our Unit 15 custodians.
The Custodial to Office Administration Apprenticeship will target three occupations: Office Technician, Personnel Specialist, and Staff Services Analyst. Details of the program will be announced in the near future, and the intent is to offer up to 33 apprentice positions spread across the three positions.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: The Civil Rights Leader and Ally of Organized Labor
On Monday, January 16, we celebrate the life and accomplishments of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law.
Dr. King saw the civil rights movement and the union movement as natural allies.

Building Stronger Community
Environmental and Latinx Committees Join Sacramento’s “City of Trees” Parade
SEIU Local 1000’s Purpose Statement encourages all of us to create a good life for all Californians, in part, by building a stronger community.
To that end, two of our Union’s Human Rights Committees, the Environmental Committee and the Latinx Committee, will have a presence at the second annual City of Trees Parade and Festival, which will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
It will be a dazzling showcase of Sacramento’s rich diversity and culture through the format of Mardi Gras.
New Year’s Leadership News from Board Chair Bill Hall
Despite the recent news predicting a $29 billion state budget deficit, we must focus on our strategic goals in 2023. We’ve set an ambitious plan to grow membership and deliver meaningful change in bargaining and for our Union. To do so, we’ll start 2023 by listening to our represented workers in town halls across the state. We will continue to ask the difficult questions: How do we connect effectively in a teleworking landscape? What do our workers want to invest in our Contract Campaign?
