The Benefits of Membership in SEIU Local 1000 Include the Power to Win a Good Contract
There’s real truth to the Local 1000 slogan: Stronger Together.

Membership is key to winning a good contract, and when we go to the bargaining table, it’s important to have a membership roster that’s as large as possible. The higher our membership percentage, the stronger the message we send to State negotiators that we’re “all in” for a good contract that values our contribution to California.

Sacramento Bargaining Town Hall Draws Hundreds of Members
An additional 6 in-person, 4 virtual meetings scheduled

With contract negotiations just around the corner, hundreds of SEIU Local 1000 members came to make their voices heard at our first Bargaining Town Hall on January 21 in Sacramento. Attendees met with statewide leaders and our bargaining team to learn more about the process of winning a good contract and to share their priorities about what they’d like to see in that contract.

Leadership Report

While the focus of SEIU Local 1000 has shifted to our 2023 Contract Campaign, we must acknowledge California is again at the center of horrific news of workplace violence. We’ll face many challenges this year — a $25 billion budget gap, a State administration that speaks of protecting workers but overlooks its own workers in compensation and income equality — but we all must stand together to support our union brothers and sisters who have experienced these devastating events. Across the state, there are 23 Central Labor Councils (CLCs) in California.

CDCR/CCHCS Members Receiving Support During Deactivations and Closures

A decreasing inmate population has fomented a number of changes in California’s prison facility landscape, affecting the jobs of some of our represented employees. SEIU Local 1000 is working closely with CDCR and CCHCS to mitigate the effects of a number of deactivations and closures underway across the state by providing resources to ease the transitions our members are facing.

Our SEIU Local 1000 Contract contains hundreds of articles that define our hard earned rights, and governs more than our wages and benefits but working conditions as well. This is the very contract we’re just about to negotiate later this year, and we work daily to enforce every provision of that document.
