Our Groundbreaking Apprenticeship Program has New Offerings in 2023!

At SEIU Local 1000, upward mobility is a Union value. Since 2016, we’ve been providing a growing number of opportunities for our members in the form of ground-breaking apprentice programs in the areas of nursing, financial services, and information technology.

We’re expanding those opportunities with a new program for Bargaining Unit 15, additional opportunities for Licensed Vocational Nurses aspiring to become Registered Nurses, and new pathways in Civil Service apprenticeships. Read more:

Members Take Our Message Direct to State Legislators on Lobby Day

Monday, March 20 was Lobby Day at the State Capitol, and our members came in force to meet with legislators in their offices. They reinforced the vital services our 96,000 represented members provide to keep California running, and that the State isn’t keeping up their part of the bargain.

Know Your Rights: You have the right to participate in union actions

Did you know that, when your fellow state workers and union leaders talk about “standing together” and taking action to protect our rights or to win a new contract, that behavior is protected by provisions in our contract, and by California State Law.

Our contract campaign is already underway, and negotiations begin soon. We win a good contract when our represented workers stand up and take action in support of the bargaining team.

Our contract expires at the end of June, and we’re literally weeks away from bargaining with the State. Our team will be working hard to fulfill the priorities of the members, and we’ll all need to support our negotiation efforts with actions in the workplace … and perhaps more.

Can Local 1000 strike? In certain circumstances, yes. Despite a “no-strike” clause in our contract, we have the right to strike, under the right conditions.
