Bargaining Team Jumpstarts Contract Negotiations with Weekend Meeting

Our Local 1000 contract—the 300+ pages that govern our wages, benefits and working conditions—will expire on June 30, 2023. Planning and strategy for winning a great contract are already underway, and those efforts included a meeting of our Statewide Bargaining Advisory Committee (SBAC) on May 14 and 15.

Our contract is negotiated by a group of dedicated member leaders—more than 150 strong— who were elected by their fellow state employees to be the liaison between their workplace and the bargaining team.

Poor People’s Campaign Rally and March in L.A.: Monday, May 16th

Our SEIU Local 1000 Purpose Statement encourages us to use our power to create a good life for all Californians, and to strive for social, economic, and environmental justice. Some of our Local 1000-represented employees demonstrated their commitment to that purpose by participating in a rally and march on Monday, May 16, in support of the Poor People’s Campaign: A Call for Moral Revival.

Joined by other union members and faith-based groups, the Los Angeles rally supported policies that lift from the bottom and fight those killing and hurting the poor and low-wealth families.

In a time where our 100,000 represented employees find themselves working in uncertainty, there’s a resource where you can quickly learn about changing workplace conditions—like our new Telework agreement— or to solve an emerging issue about the hard-earned rights granted by our contract.

A call to the Local 1000 Member Resource Center (MRC) connects you with a well-trained, knowledgeable union representative who can answer questions and, when necessary, refer you to professional staff for representation or other issues.

“Straight Talk” is hosted by Board Chair Bill Hall, who is often joined by our statewide vice presidents, by Local 1000 staff, and guests.
