“I’m making sure workplaces are sanitized to minimize the coronavirus impact.”

Alfredo Cortez is providing essential services to his fellow state workers by helping to keep the state office building in San Diego clean and safe for his fellow workers whose jobs require them to work on site.

“I’m making sure workplaces are sanitized to minimize the coronavirus impact,” said Alfredo, whose already important job has become even more critical due to the risks posed by COVID-19.

Alfredo is responsible for a six-story building that serves as the San Diego hub for a handful of state agencies, including a very busy branch of the Employment Development Department. There, like so many EDD offices across the state, dozens of employees are still working on site to manage the spike in unemployment claims brought on by the coronavirus.

“We’re still seeing some traffic into the building, employees and members of the public alike, and it’s our responsibility to provide a clean and safe space,” Alfredo said.

“By using enhanced methods of cleaning and closely following common-sense strategies, I’m able to keep myself safe and do my job well.”
