Information Technology Apprenticeship Programs
SEIU Local 1000 continues to expand the scope of apprenticeship opportunities it works to provide to our members. In 2017, the nation’s first public sector IT apprenticeship program with a networking focus was launched. The program has since broadened to also include a focus of help desk/client services. Nearly 50 IT apprentices have been registered so far, and they receive on-the-job training as well as college level instruction. Half of our apprentices have already received promotions into their sought-after IT classifications. Recently, SEIU Local 1000 partnered with Government Operations Agency, the California Department of Technology, Division of Apprenticeship Standards, IBM, and American River College to establish an apprenticeship aimed at mainframe computing. We hope to work with the same partners to create an apprenticeships targeting cybersecurity occupations.
