The Story Behind Veterans Day – How We Honor Those Who Served

Veterans Day on November 11th honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which marks the end of World War I. These observances reflect the end of significant hostilities at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany took effect. Initially, the United States observed Armistice Day as well. However, it evolved into the current Veterans Day in 1954.

A Weekly Local 1000 Progress Report from Board Chair Bill Hall

In the midst of this important election season, I was reflecting on our civic duties as citizens. Our responsibility to our Union is just as important. With all the hard work being done by our staff and member leaders for our represented members and our Union, we must continue to build support and strengthen our resolve. Our number one priority is continuing the momentum we have built behind our Contract Campaign. Obstacles will be thrown in our way by those who seek to distract and disrupt, but under the leadership of our current officers, we are determined to succeed.
