Cost Savings Task Force Begins Collaboration with the State to Identify $200 Million in Savings
Our Cost Savings Task Force, made up of eight Local 1000 member leaders and eight members of the State—including a representative from the Department of Finance—was created to leverage our power and drive the State to find $200 million in cost reductions. These savings would then be redirected to employee compensation for July 2021. While $200 million is a relatively small amount of money in terms of the overall budget, it’s vital to the working people we represent.

Laura Slavec is a member leader working to make a difference on the job and in her community, with the goal of a safe workplace and a healthy community. She’s a Registered Dental Assistant at Pelican Bay State Prison, where the fortunes of the community are closely tied to the CDCR facility—the largest employer in the area.

Applications Now Being Accepted for LVN-to-RN Apprentices at Delta College
SEIU Local 1000, in partnership with CCHCS and San Joaquin Delta College, is recruiting for new applicants to the LVN-to-RN Apprentice Program, with classes planned to begin in 2021. LVNs attending the program retain their permanent positions while gaining the requisite skills and competencies to become an RN through a combination of classroom theory, clinical experience, and on-the-job training.
