Bargaining Unit 14 – 1st Quarter Report of 2020
JLMC Statewide Meeting

Post

SEIU Local 1000’s Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) members from the Department of General Services – Office of State Publishing (OSP) met on February 5, 2020, for the first quarterly statewide JLMC meeting of 2020.

During this meeting, the team discussed several topics including:

  • Updates on how the move to the new plant has been going. The State Printer expressed the move largely has gone well, although there have been some delays and issues due to installing new equipment and malfunctioning pieces of equipment. The state printer was very appreciative of our members hard work and flexibility while maintaining high quality print jobs.

  • There was a brief discussion regarding chairs on the shop floor at the plant. The State Printer stated that a third-party consultant would be reviewing the layout and shop floor over the next few months and providing recommendations.

  • Management offered ‘kudos’ to our members for the great work that was done in completing a Secretary of State print job which required a re-print of over 500,000 state documents.

  • The State Printer was excited to express that OSP was staying busy with regular  jobs coming in and also mentioned management has an eye on the future of the printing trades industry by thinking about possible opportunities for cross-training, apprenticeships, and more, for current and future printing trades employees.

  • The next JLMC meeting is tentatively scheduled for May, and your Union team will be reaching out to members for input and possible meeting agenda items.

We are excited to continue to represent the many voices of our members in this collaborative meeting, and we are committed to communicating with Bargaining Unit 14 members regularly on the topics and discussions held at these meetings.

The best way to achieve results for all members is to work together, and we encourage all members to stay in touch via the Unit 14 email box at Unit14@seiu1000.org and your bargaining unit chair who can be reached at 916-712-3798.

We’re always happy to respond to your questions.
