Rally at the Capitol on August 27 to Demand Our Rights and Protect Our Represented Employees
We’re fighting to enforce our contract, protect our Union, and for our represented employees in Lassen County

Post

On Friday, August 27, the represented employees of SEIU Local 1000 will stand strong against the Governor’s efforts to ignore and violate our hard-earned contract rights. From 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., we will make our voices heard and tell Governor Newsom, the Legislature, and those like Tim Draper who want to see the demise of our union, that we will protect and enforce our contract!

We demand a meet-and-confer over the governor’s unilateral declaration about vaccinations and masks in the workplace. This is a change in working conditions, in job requirements, and the threat of employee discipline. None of our 100,000 members should be subjected to this new rule without the benefit of full representation by our Union.

This is not about taking a position on the vaccine. We believe in a safe and healthy workplace, but we believe equally in our contract rights. The State must come to the table with the exclusive legal representative of 100,000 employees in nine bargaining unit when it comes to changes in our working conditions.

We also demand a stop to the planned closure of the California Correctional Center (CCC) in Susanville. This closure is wrong. It will throw hundreds of families into economic crisis and devastate the Lassen County economy.

The CCC closure will affect 234 union families, and, in total, more than 1,000 jobs. Our represented employees deserve the safety and security our contract guarantees.

No one should face layoffs while under a union contract.  No one should be required to prove their vaccination status or be tested for COVID without union representation. No one should have to see their hard-earned pension and benefits stripped away from them.

Our contract is under attack. Join us as we rally for our rights!
