Supplemental Paid Sick Leave Renewed in Newsom’s Budget

With the omicron variant sweeping the state, pro-worker and labor groups say it’s essential to restore the extra paid sick leave.  On January 8, 2022, Governor Newsom announced in his proposed budget, calling for new legislation to reinstate the supplemental paid sick leave “to better protect our frontline workers” during the omicron surge.

SEIU Local 1000 President Richard Louis Brown is demanding that the State act now to restore this supplemental sick leave for state workers. In his January 14, 2022 letter to Director Eraina Ortega of the Department of Human Resources, he reminded her that state workers have been essential throughout this pandemic.
