Union fights mandatory vaccination at CDCR/CCHCS
On October 4, 2021, CDCR/CCHCS ignored notice requirements when it told Wardens that employees could be disciplined starting on October 15, 2021 if they weren’t fully vaccinated.
President Richard Louis Brown fought back against this unilateral change without notice and the chance to meet and confer. The Union immediately filed an Unfair Practice Charge at the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) asking for expedited and immediate action to protect employees from this unilateral change.
State workers have been on the front lines throughout the eighteen months of this pandemic. CDCR/CCHCS has issued dozens of COVID related notices to the Union and offered to meet and confer over many changes or other matters within the scope of bargaining. But on this important issue in which employees face mandatory vaccination or mandatory discipline, CDCR/CCHCS shirked the requirement of notice. The Union’s charged is attached here.
The next fight will be at the table. We need all workers to support the Union’s effort to protect our rights against management’s one-sided changes in violation of our bargaining rights.
