Unit 14 Bargaining Update for Tuesday, July 30, 2019
Unit 14 Bargaining Team Reaches 27 Tentative Agreements with State Negotiators; Defends Upward Mobility Provisions

Post

Local 1000 Unit 14, which represents state printers, went back to the bargaining table on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 and signed 27 roll-over, tentative agreements with state negotiators. The agreements cover items that (1) ensure current upward mobility and training related contract articles and (2) provide avenues for Unit 14 workers to explore training and career advancement opportunities.

In many areas of printing and graphic design, technological developments have made access to training and technical education more important than ever for workers in these occupations. That’s why the Unit 14 bargaining team made sure to prioritize protecting the upward mobility provisions in our current contract.

Unit 14 signed roll-over language on Tuesday that preserved:

  • Bargaining Unit 14’s Upward Mobility Joint Labor/Management Committee and the Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) for the Office of State Publishing.
  • An Upward Mobility and Training provision that provides Unit 14 employees with reimbursement for expenses incurred as a result of satisfactorily completing required training or education courses.

Bargaining team members and state negotiators also continued their discussions around the importance of expanding classification reviews to jobs that have undergone significant changes in recent years.

“Today’s negotiations with the state went well,” commented Robert Vega, chair of Unit 14. “We were able to protect Upward Mobility for hundreds of printers and designers in Unit 14. Now we have to have a strong showing on August 13 to make sure we win these protections.”
