Unit 3 Bargaining Update for Monday July 8, 2019
Unit 3 Propose and Pass Four Special Salary Increases to State

Post

Monday, July 8, marked the first 2019 meeting between the Local 1000 Unit 3 bargaining team and state representatives as they began the process of negotiating another great contract for union members. Serving teachers and librarians across California from Blythe to Weaverville, the Unit 3 team made four presentations to the state advocating for the interests of SEIU 1000 members and their families, with the goal of creating a California For All.

The first presentation came from Stefanie Gyles and Matthew Colvin, Senior Librarians with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). They were followed by Terry Hibbard, the Unit 3 Chairperson, who presented for the Military Department, and Heather DeFelice and Margot Johnson, Teacher Specialists with Diagnostic Centers. The final presenter of the day was Toni Lawley, Teacher of Speech Development and Correction with Porterville Development Center.

The presentations focused on the inherent value of the work the respective union specialists provide to all Californians, and afterward Unit 3 passed four proposals. These proposals, which requested a special salary increase for their respective special education and teacher specialists, were then passed on to the state for consideration.

Unit 3 will return to the bargaining table on Monday, July 15th as they continue to fight for fair wages by tackling the issues members have brought to our attention, both via bargaining surveys as well as at the town halls earlier this year.
