Winner Announced in T-Shirt Design Contest

Post

Leona Mitchell, a LVN working at Avenal State Prison, was named the winner in SEIU Local 1000’s t-shirt design contest, and you’ll be seeing her work next year as part of our campaign to win a new contract.

When we Purple Up, we build a stronger, more cohesive Union to ensure we get the wages, benefits, and working conditions we deserve. This new t-shirt design will be part of the package that creates a unified look that we use to proclaim that we’re Stronger Together.

“At Local 1000 helping people is what we do,” said Leona Mitchell. “I believe the handshake symbolizes that, and how we work together to make things happen.”

Mitchell is a 15-year state employee and a member the entire time. What’s more, she’s a Job Steward and herself, one of the members of this Union who helps their sisters and brothers to thrive in the workplace.

“Submitting my design was just one way of getting involved with Local 1000,” she said. Leona actually sent in three different designs … and her favorite was the one that won the competition!

Watch for Leona’s design in your worksite soon.
