Highlights from Last Month's Call

Bobby Roy, our Bargaining Unit 21 Chair, shared how federal funding cuts are already hitting home for some state workers. At the California State Library, hiring and purchasing freezes are underway, and the department is preparing for possible layoffs — all triggered by the loss of federal IMLS funding.
While this situation is specific to one department, it’s a powerful reminder that the challenges we face as state workers can come from many directions — and that our strength is in standing together.

Why Membership Matters

When you become a member of Local 1000, you’re not just signing up — you’re standing up. Membership gives us the collective power to win real changes in the workplace and defend the rights we’ve fought hard to earn.

Here’s why being a member matters:

  • Stronger Together: The more members we have, the stronger our voice at the bargaining table and in Sacramento. Membership gives us power to negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions.

  • Your Voice in Action: Members shape the direction of our union. From electing leaders to voting on contracts, your voice counts.

  • Protection on the Job: As a member, you have access to representation if you’re facing unfair treatment or disciplinary action at work.

  • Community and Support: Membership connects you to a network of coworkers who are committed to fairness, equity, and a better future for all state workers.

  • Investing in the Future: Membership dues fuel our organizing, legal support, and public campaigns — so we can keep fighting for telework, job security, and a stronger public sector.

Join us — because when we stand together, we win together.
