Why become a SEIU Local 1000 Job Steward?

It is important that SEIU Local 1000 have a strong steward presence at all worksites. Stewards serve as the essential link between the union and its members at the workplace level.

    1. Representation: Stewards ensure that members have someone to represent them in grievances, disciplinary actions, and protecting their rights under the contract.
    2. Contract Enforcement: Stewards help enforce the union contract by identifying and address violations, ensuring management is held accountable.
    3. Communication: Steward act as a two-way communication channel, relaying updates to members and bringing workplace issues back to Local 1000 leadership.
    4. Support and Education to Coworkers: Steward help coworkers understand their rights and the benefits of union membership, empowering them to stand up for themselves.
    5. Union Strength: The presence of strong, active stewards builds solidarity and strengthens the union’s ability to organize, bargain, and take collective action.
