zSystems Apprenticeship Program

Notification

SEIU Local 1000 is currently recruiting candidates for the first cohort of the State of California zSystems Apprenticeship Program.  The zSystems Apprenticeship Program is offered jointly by SEIU Local 1000, California Department of Technology (CDT), Employment Development Department (EDD), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), California Government Operations Agency (GovOps), and American River College (ARC). This program is designed to provide state employees who meet specific criteria, with education, skills, and experience in mainframe technology.

If selected, apprentices enter a training and development assignment in an IT classification for a period of up to two years.  During this time, they receive on-the-job training within their current department and related instruction derived from IBM’s gold standard curriculum and framework delivered by ARC to train apprentices in occupations such as mainframe system administrator, application development specialist, and software engineer.  At the conclusion of the program, apprentices will meet the minimum qualifications to promote into an IT classification.
