SEIU Local 1000 is currently recruiting candidates for the third cohort of the State of California zSystems Apprenticeship Program.  The zSystems Apprenticeship Program is offered jointly by SEIU Local 1000, Department of Technology (CDT), Employment Development Department (EDD), California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) and American River College (ARC). This program is designed to provide state employees, who meet specific criteria, with education, skills, and experience in mainframe computing technology.

If selected, apprentices enter a training and development assignment in an IT classification for a period of up to two years.  During this time, they receive on-the-job training within their current department and related instruction derived from IBM’s gold standard curriculum and framework, delivered by ARC, to train apprentices in occupations such as mainframe system administrator and application development specialist. At the conclusion of the program, apprentices will meet the minimum qualifications to promote into an IT classification with the State of California!

In order to apply, you must complete and submit the zSystems Apprenticeship Program Application.  Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on November 2, 2022. Interviews will be held this winter, and classes are scheduled to being as early as March 2023.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  In order to apply, you must do the following:

  1. Apply to American River College for the Spring 2023 semester.
     
  2. Complete and submit the Apprenticeship Application online.
    (*Applicants interested in applying to multiple opportunities hosted by their department will need to submit separate applications for each opportunity they would like to be considered for.)
