Post

Local 1000’s Unit 21 reached agreement on 10 “roll-over” contract provisions on Friday, August 9, to close out the remainder of their non-economic proposals. In the process, the bargaining team was able to preserve a number of vital provisions in the current contract important to Unit 21 members including:

  • Education Leave – allows for Unit 21 members to use their education leave credits for higher education goals and/or professional growth.
  • Education Leave Conversion and Retirement – allows the conversion of educational leave into retirement service credit under CalPERS.
  • Professional Development – requires the state to provide 2 days per fiscal year (without loss of compensation) for activities such as professional association activities, and professional and/or personal development seminars to promote professional and personal growth and enhance professional and personal goals.

Unit 21 also shared an informational table with Unit 3 on issues related to CalSTRS and CalPERS and understanding post-employment benefits.

“The bargaining team believes the Friday session went well and we’re looking forward to seeing the rest of our economic proposals move ahead at the master table,” said Miguel Cordova, Unit 21 chair. “Now we need to show up at the Capitol Rally on August 13 and show the state that we’re prepared to stand up and be heard for our members and our communities.”

The Local 1000s bargaining teams are asking you to join them at the Capitol Ally on August 13 to show our collective power. Call 866.471.7348 (SEIU) to RSVP.
