Earlier this month, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced plans to require fully remote employees to return to office two days a week starting September 8. This raised serious concerns with our union, as it directly conflicts with our side letter of agreement which protects current telework arrangements for 90 days after the side letter’s ratification (September 26). CPUC also failed to meet and confer with the union to discuss the impact of these changes before implementing the policy.

In response, numerous CPUC employees, including our dedicated union leaders, spoke out during a public comment session, both in person and by phone, to voice their opposition. Thanks to the swift and united advocacy of our members, CPUC has now paused its return-to-office policy until next year, securing a major win for our union’s continued fight for telework protections.
