On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, our Local 1000 Bargaining Unit 15 Statewide Upward Mobility and Career Development Joint Labor Management Committee (JLMC) met with CalHR, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Department of General Services (DGS), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Department of State Hospitals (DSH), Employment Development Department (EDD), and California Department of Veteran Affairs (CalVet) to continue to discuss the current status of upward mobility and career development programs and to plan for future steps. We discussed the following topics:

  • Followed up with departments on how employees access the Upward Mobility Program at their worksite
  • Followed up with departments on how they are utilizing the 20/20 program and if they are at all
  • Discussed succession planning and aligning this with upward mobility opportunities
  • Discussed how the Upward Mobility Program is funded within each department

We were able to get many of our questions answered by the departments where now we are moving toward collaborating with the state to improve the upward mobility program overall. Our next Upward Mobility JLMC meeting is scheduled for October 18, where we will collaborate with all the departments and CalHR to brainstorm strategies to better recruit, market and advertise the upward mobility program throughout each department.
