Overview

Community Power

Community Power

Community Power focuses on building power where we live to exert the power necessary to achieve the Local 1000 Purpose Statement.

In 2020 we have been focused on advocating for affordable housing and renter protections in Sacramento. Interested members meet monthly in the evening on the 3rd Monday of each month.

While Community Power is presently focused in the Sacramento region, we will expand to other areas where there is member density and member leadership willing to engage in community issues.

Are you a leader in your community or interested in becoming one? Do you have a vision for what your community could become Join us! For more information contact: communitypower@seiu1000.org

Hand-washing Stations for Homeless Encampments

On Saturday, May 9, 2020, the SEIU Local 1000 Community Power team teamed up with SacSOUP Sacramento to build 50 portable hand-washing stations for homeless encampments. Thank you to all the members who showed up and put in the hard work to make this happen!

Community Power Day at Loaves & Fishes

On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, the Community Power team packed 250 breakfasts and lunches for our neighbors who don’t have shelter, and the following morning they loaded everything up and delivered it to our friends at Loaves and Fishes.

As you can see, given the social distancing standards in place, it was quite an undertaking, but we are committed to making our state a California for All, which guides our efforts.

Thank you to all of the member volunteers without whose efforts this would not have happened:

  • Francina Stevenson
  • Christy Correa
  • Crystal McCray
