Juneteenth Is a Day of Freedom. State Workers Deserve Paid Time to Honor It. Make It a Paid State Holiday.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom, justice, and equality are rights that must be continually defended and expanded for all people. As union members, we recognize that the fight for dignity and respect in the workplace is deeply connected to the ongoing struggle for racial and economic justice. Juneteenth is a time to honor the resilience, contributions, and leadership of Black workers throughout history and today.

Juneteenth Call-In Action – Script

Hello! My name is _____. I work for ______ and I am a proud member of SEIU Local 1000. I would like to leave a message.

I’m calling today in support of recognizing Juneteenth as a paid holiday for California state employees.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as an important reminder of our nation’s ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice. Recognizing Juneteenth as a paid holiday would honor this history and demonstrate California’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and respect for all workers.

I urge CalHR to support proposals that would provide state employees with Juneteenth as a paid holiday and to work with SEIU Local 1000 to make this a reality.

Celebrate Juneteenth Across California

The African American Committee has put together a list of events happening throughout Sacramento and California. It’s a wonderful opportunity to honor our history and embrace our shared future with hope and joy for generations to come.
