Our Members Providing Relief for NorCal Fire Victims

Notification

When scores of homes burned in the recent Northern California fires, Local 1000 members and staff came together to do their share to help as thousands of displaced residents—including nearly 300 of our SEIU sisters and brothers— began to rebuild their lives.

Our union created a website with resources to help fire victims, which helped them connect with community groups providing shelter and assistance. Our Member Resource Center helped to connect those affected with relief agencies and provided access and guidelines for reimbursement for disaster expenses and administrative time off.

Maria Patterson, Bargaining Unit 15 Chair, coordinated a food and supply drive for families affected by the fires. Working together with members at DLC 792, we delivered three truckloads of essentials—food, water, clothing, toys and tools—to disaster relief stations in Santa Rosa and Napa.

“We are living our purpose statement,” said Patterson. “Local 1000 is California and when catastrophe strikes, we help those affected regain the good life we want for all Californians.”
