Cost Savings Task Force Preparing Report for Governor
Proposed savings may ensure timely general salary increase

Post

Later this month, our Cost Savings Task Force will submit a report to the Governor’s Office identifying budget reductions to be directed towards state employee compensation in order to preserve our 2% general salary increase negotiated in 2019 and scheduled for July 1 of this year.

It’s the culmination of a series of monthly meetings that began in August 2020, launched as part of the Side Letter agreement we negotiated to address needs related to the pandemic. The Task Force is comprised of Local 1000 members and representatives from a number of state agencies, including CalHR and the Department of Finance. The State has also brought along a number of subject matter experts from DGS who are responsible for a large share of purchasing and contracting to ensure the Task Force has a complete picture of the process to support our recommendations.

The Task Force has been reviewing cost-reduction solutions gathered from members across the state since last spring, along with concepts generated by the members of the Task Force. As the ideas are finalized, the group’s efforts shift to identifying the best methods to effectively present the savings identified to ensure that a variety of audiences can have a complete understanding of the recommendations.

Following the submission of the report, our Task Force will turn its efforts into engaging members to take action and pressure the State to make the savings concepts a reality and to ensure we get our raise on time as negotiated.
