Update on SEIU Local 1000 Activities

We want to let you be the first to know about several actions we have taken today to ensure that our workers’ rights and protections continue to be enforced. 

 As you know, the breach of the headquarters and continued occupation is a grave situation that imperils the physical files and contents of our building. Since it started, and every minute since, this occupation continues to interrupt the vital work of our staff operation which must have access to the building and its contents to perform their jobs — to protect worker rights and ensure the protections of hard-working members’ dues.

Today, joined by our International Union, we filed an application for a restraining order in Sacramento Superior Court to get immediate legal relief. This action is designed to prevent further harm.

The motion notes that suspended President Richard Louis Brown “defied his order of suspension through a series of remarkably brazen and illegal actions beginning the weekend of March 5-6, and continuing to the moment of this filing, that pose an immediate and serious threat to the Union and its ability to properly serve the approximately 100,000 workers that it represents.”

In addition, we learned this afternoon that Mr. Brown sent an unauthorized email to members using our union’s mailing list. This violation of your privacy, stating actions that were not discussed with your elected board of directors nor our Executive Committee, is yet another example of Mr. Brown’s disregard for the democratic governance of our union. We ask that you please ignore the contents of this email.
